Greetings,
I want to first personally thank you again for allowing me the time in January to seek God’s will for my life. I spent time reading, reflecting, fasting and journaling. The most enjoyable time spent was visiting other churches that were growing and on fire. I visited over nine churches in three weeks! Yes that meant going on Saturday night and Sunday mornings. I watched, listened and learned from some very well known preachers. I pray my growth will inspire my preaching and teaching in our church. A big thank you to the staff, especially Pastor Jay and our Lay Minister Donna Stone for filling in the gap with visitation and preaching. For those of you that gave us Christmas presents, I must give a blanket THANK YOU as I lost my list of gifts that I received and the notes that I had already sent. We had close to four hundred people with both Christmas Eve services combined! Praise God!

If you’re attending church here, you’re already part of our church family and that will never change. We are so very blessed by your presence in worship and fellowship. But maybe you’ve wondered about church membership and what it involves. You may have burning questions to ask ranging from theology issues to coffee hour or just what the whole United Methodist Church is all about. We are inviting you to explore the meaning of membership here at the Indian River United Methodist Church.

When God leads obediently following is not always our gut instinct, but the more time we spend in His presence the more we want to be in His will.

The Missions Team would like to ask the congregation to help us in praying, searching our Bibles and listening for our focus. We see so much need, so many worthwhile projects – we feel God is showing us we need to focus our resources/energies but we want to make sure we go in the right direction!
So please, be in prayer as we attempt to focus and build a 5-year plan. Please feel free to join us March 6th (first Thursday) at 6:30pm. We usually grab any open room here at the church. Also, please keep Tedi Mange in your prayers. She is our traveling missionary.

Our Valentine Lunch on Feb. 13th took the chill off a typical Northern Michigan wintry day and lifted the spirits of those who attended. The 34 women who gathered for fellowship enjoyed the talents of our hostess team, whom we thank for blessing us with their gifts.

The Walk to Emmaus is a spiritual renewal program intended to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders. The program’s approach seriously considers the model of Christ’s servant hood and encourages Christ’s disciples to act in ways appropriate to being “a servant of all.”

Almost a century ago, Dr. R.W. Dale, a preacher in Birmingham, England, was in his study writing an Easter sermon. As he pondered the Easter event, suddenly the fact of the Resurrection broke in upon him as never before. Later, he wrote of what he felt:
'Christ is alive,' I said to myself: 'Alive!' and then I paused: - 'Alive!' and then I paused again: 'Alive!' Can that really be true? Living as I myself am? I got up and walked about, repeating, 'Christ is living! Christ is living!' At first it seemed strange and hardly true, but at last it came upon me as a burst of sudden glory.
-James S. Stewart, in The Life and Teaching of Jesus Christ

Are we ready for spring yet? If nothing else, winter in northern Michigan teaches us patience and the sweet reward of practicing it. The unfolding of the seasons is one of God’s most amazing works and I always look forward to them. Ecclesiastes 3 says, “There is a time for everything, and everything on earth has its special season.” We are in the season of Lent, a time to prepare for Easter, the resurrection of the Lord. What are you doing to prepare? We have many good devotionals, you could spend a little time each day reflecting on the Word of God and praying. Wed. nights we come together at the Edge and share in fellowship and study, come join us. Sun. morning, besides great worship, we have an Adult Sun. School class at 10:15, with Pat Kolb. There are many opportunities to prepare your hearts in this season to encounter the Lord. He invites you to come.

Family Program Coordinator:
What is a Family Program Coordinator you ask? Hmmm…. I’m still letting God fill me in completely on this. I often ask Him just where it is He is leading me. Last February while recovering from my knee surgery I asked God to give me a scripture. He led me to Colossians 3, Rules for Holy Living, but particularly Colossians 3:12-17 spoke to my heart. Unity, isn’t a family a unit? We are all God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved. Families are people of all ages from the newborn to the gracefully aged (I hope I put that politically correct), singles and married brothers and sisters in Christ. And I can think of no greater mission than to help over see and nurture the members of God’s Family.
